Morning, just a quick query regarding the default email server software on
the RAQ3.
Current configuration: Default out of the box RAQ3 with ALL updates from
Cobalt/Sun applied. Bassi Mailscanner 3.21.-1 modification with F-Prot as
the virus checker. My internal LAN sits behind a cable modem from my
upstream ISP. My RAQ sits on this internal LAN. I have other PC's using my
email accounts from my upstream ISP and 1 machine that gets mail from the
RAQ.
Situation:
Almost at random, any ATTACHMENTS sent TO users on the RAQ get either
damaged in some manner or simply are unopenable. Examples include .jpg's
that are blurred beyond recognition (some almost look like they're melting
off the screen) and "corrupt" winzip archives, unopenable .txt files....etc.
Now, this basterdization of file attachments appears to be occuring at
random. I'd half to guess about 30% of the time files are being "modified"
in this manner.
Yet the same mail, if CC'd to an account on another one of my machines that
gets its mail from my upstream ISP, has no issues with the attachments. This
makes me think that it's my email server "mis-handling" the attachments.
Then, all of a sudden this damaging of attachments ceases for a while.
I have never had an instance of file attachments being changed in this way
going OUT through my mailserver.
Anybody out there think they can give me a clue as to where to start
looking? I have a silly feeling this is going to be "oh, just change this
line in 'whatever.cnf' that says blah blah blah about mime attachments...."
or something like that, but I'm still grasping at this whole Linux thing
(and it's structure and operation...).
Thanks fer yer time!
Marcel
