Mike,
The tutorial fix seems to be a pre 1.65 solution.
The full solution which worked for me is explained
in

952&forum_id=108433
Make sure to read all the posts as the
"domainnames_override yes" setting was the final
step that got rid of the "www." element.
This solution avoids user involvement in removing
the "www.". Hope that helps.
