I never read this initial post so sorry for the late reply. To save
yourself hassle every time you change providers, consider setting up a host
record for your secondary name server using one of your own domains
(ns2.datajockeys.net for example), then ask your provider to host your
secondary DNS on one of their machines and update the IP address for the
hostname at the registrar for datajockeys.net and of course update the
listed name servers at the respective registries for all domains you host.
Then next time you switch providers (or just switch the secondary name
server to a new machine or IP) you can just make a single update at the
registry for that hostname's domain and nothing more is required. Plus,
your name servers never lead savvy customers who check DNS or whois to your
provider, who in many circumstances provides similar services, possible at a
lower cost.
