No because the vsite has to exist.
I configured it without automatic DNS configuration.

If the vsite exists, the Cobalt is going to think that it is the mailserver
regardless of what DNS tells it. Therefore, the fact that it is on your
Cobalt stops relaying to the other site. It gets people's email that do not
exist on that server and does a kick back.
If all you want is a storage area incase the site goes down, then you must
remove all information regarding email for that site. Basically, it is
setup
to "receive email for this domain". If you uncheck that, you should be able
to still keep your website info, and sendmail will be re-configured NOT to
receive email for the domain.
Once that is complete, add the domain back into the "Relay for Domain" box
under the main Email Properties.
