Erik, how you are you forwarding mail for a user that doesn't exist?  Did
you create a dummy entry in virtusertable and point that dummy entry to an
external email address within aliases?  Can you provide details of your
setup for clarification?

Did you do makemap /etc/mail/virtusertable.db < /etc/mail/virtusertable
after changing this file?  And did you run newaliases after making any
changes to aliases?  Testing sendmail how and from the server that used to
have the record in Sendmail or another server?  Please paste in log records
and/or verbose output from the "mail" program, running it from the
commandline to send a test email.
