first of all make sure that the sshd is running (ps -A) .. if it is not .. no panic, just start it. /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd start If it is ... and you have not changed anything, it is possible that you have had an unfriendly visit (and have had a root kit installed). we experienced similar problems.
