Small /var is a problem, I agree. Small / is not... very little
needs to go there. IMHO, if it's not needed to get the system
"up and running" and mount /usr (perhaps from the network), it
probably needn't go on the root partition. In the past, I ran
50 MB / by choice; now I usually use 128 MB.
Frankly, I think a small root partition is a _good_ idea. It's
much faster to fsck and have a running system in case of
disaster.

Perhaps it's time for some list members to make their own
appliances. I know we install packages _much_ sooner than Cobalt
updates are released... and I'm positive the number of systems
is orders of magnitude smaller than the number of Cobalts out
there. ;-) [i.e., effort/benefit ratio is higher for us.]
I shan't resort to PJ-style Sun bashing, but I will allude to
those thoughts and question Mr. Mcneally's sense of direction...
