I'll take a look, but I don't think it will substitute - I asked about the Zend Optimizer product because a helpdesk solution we're looking at REQUIRES it.

I'd agree here, the reason some PHP software requires the Zend Optimizer is that the .php source has been encrypted so tampering with source code can't be done. The Optimizer is needed to handle the decryption. Take a look at www.zend.com under the Zend SafeGuard Suite, as this looks like whats in use by the software.
(btw: we installed optimizer on the Qube3 without problems)
