Hi John.

Thanks for reminding me. I had actually read that earlier and
completely forgot about it. One of the reasons I was gung-ho about
moving to the 550 was because it should be faster. Our RaQ4s are
relatively underpowered by today's standards, but your review makes
it sound like more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for taking the
time to post that.

Michelle & John,

Just an FYI. I had upgrade my Raq 4r (Two 20s, 512 ram) to the Raq550
software. It works LIKE A CHAMP.
I have had NO problems at all, with any of the software, or the updates. I
even used the BIOS upgrade that
came with the OS Restore CD. (Thanks guys!, good work!!!).

It uses the EXT3 file system, which to me .. I think is a lot better then
the EXT2. It organizes data
more efficiently, plus if for some strange reason you have a system crash,
(loose power), it does not require
you to run the FSCK (scan disk type app).

It has the 2.4 Kernel, which is a lot smoother too, and you can use
IPTABLES, which is much better firewall
wall software.

If you honestly take the time to sit there, and just watch it upgrade, it
isn't to bad.

Once I had upgraded the BIOS, it installed no problems, rebooted it ... ran
the additional Manufacture scripts
and BAM up and working (about 1/2hr).

Just my two cents on this matter. (Btw, that was a few months ago, when
they finally put out the OS Restore ISO.
So, I have had it for a while!
