I had the exact same problem - except it was that my cable modem wouldn't
talk to my RaQ4 until the RaQ tried to access the 'outside' network (outside
the subnet).  While I'm not happy that it happened, at least I am not alone
:)  I moved and my new setup is much nicer - no need to ping an outside
source anymore.  I just set my server to ping the ISP's DNS server :)
