[cobalt-users] RE: cobalt-users digest, Vol 1 #5094 - 12 msgs

Question and answer all in one:

I'm using qube3 (sendmail 8.10.2) and of 55 users, only one had the
"connect: premature EOM" error. He's using XP-everything (on a compaq
laptop) can send regular e-mail messages all day long, but when he sends
*meeting requests* from outlook xp, he generates the premature EOM error,
and his outlook tells him:

Task 'Jim - Sending' reported error (ox800ccc13): "Unable to connect to the
network. Check your network connection or modem.'

Answer:
In my case, Office XP service pack2 + wordmail was the culprit.

In service pack 2 (uninstallable, by the way), MS addressed a vulnerability
related to word as e-mail. Testing with a combo of users who didn't have
servicepack2, users with and without wordmail, etc. Turning this user's
wordmail to plaintext or html, solved his issue. Meeting reminders now go
out fine. Microsoft screwed up some component of the message, no doubt.

I think for the Raq3, there were some hard coded limits of 250. But if
you're good with edit config files by hand, you'll have no problem putting
more sites on the box. It just comes down to how much traffic the sites are
getting and if they're using lots of dynamic content. YMMV.

Greetings,

Have a colocated RAQ4 at a facility
which will remain un-named. Due to
a tremendous lack of good luck, my
properly patched Raq4 was puked-on
by the SysAdmin at this 'un-named
facility'. The SysAdmin offered to
format and re-patch my RaQ. Problem
is now the RaQ is not able to work
with FP extensions in a friendly way.

I am testing the RAQ to make sure
all is well before I drop 100+
sites onto her. And was installing
and un-installing FrontPage (FP)
to see how she handled it. It
is not going well.

I keep getting this error...

'The FrontPage web could not be uninstalled
successfully'

I have rebooted.
I have deleted and reinstalled the domain.
I try FP publishing to the domain and get
a no 'FP ext's installed on this
server' error...

Could it be that the RAQ was not properly
patched by the SysAdmin at this 'unamed
facility'?

In my experience with these servers and FP
it is crucial to be able to remove and
then re-install FP ext's on a hosted domain
in order to fix occasional hick-ups...
at least that is how I have fixed them
before...

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Quasi

PS If you could email me directly
with your thoughts, it would
be appreciated...

It's certainly possible.

Have you tried creating a brand new FP site, e.g.,
http://sub.yourdomain.com/ and add that to your DNS and then see if FP
is working properly there. If so, it sounds like the old problem of
removing the extensions actually not removing everything. There are a
number of posts in the archives about deleting all the FP config files
manually for a site with problems.

Ok, continuing this conversation with myself, which seems kinda strange
but who knows, maybe someone will spot it with an answer..

I've done some more research and it seems my problem is fairly common
and nothing to worry about. But since it is filling up the message log,
I need to do something. I found this bit to add to the named.conf:

logging {
catagory queries {null;};
};

But it doesn't seem to work. The instructions were for query rather than
queries, and I've tried them both with no luck. Also added quotes to it
with no luck. So anyone know what I'm missing or can do otherwise? ( I
found catagory queries on some dns webpage.)

Try "category" (the correct spelling) instead of "catagory" and see if
that helps. Just a thought.

in the proftpd.conf i found this:

<VirtualHost 192.168.0.21>
        DefaultRoot / admin
        DefaultRoot ~/../.. site-adm
        DefaultRoot ~ !site-adm
        AllowOverwrite on
        DisplayLogin .ftphelp
</VirtualHost>

What on earth is ~ !site-adm? or "/ admin" ?

does it mean that admin has access to / ?

and if You´re not site-adm then U have access to only ~ (user home) ?

Sincerly

Hi folks

Can anyone tell me what the maximum number of domains a RaQXTR can
support is?

More importantly, does this include (or is there a seperate limit)
sub-domains that are configured by creating a user under the main
domain and then manually adding a VirtualHost entry for the
sub.domain?

I have a hosting client that wants a couple of hundred sub-domains
configured - just worried it's going to max the server out!

Thanks for any help,
Tim Skipper

Dang, now I've gone and wasted some of your time.. I'm sorry. I actually
have the correct spelling in the named.conf file. Sorry. Still no
success.

I have a RAQ4r, and one of my users exceeded quota. I logged through
server management interface, and clicked on the domain with the problem.

I received a The requested URL was not found on this server.

I ssh into the server and the files are in fact there in the /home/sites
dir there is no named directory for the site, but there is a
/home/sites/site8 for it.

The site is responding to web traffic and mail traffic, but I no longer
have access through the admin interface.

I have an idea that you use meta-verify to fix this, but have been unable
to confirm this when searching the list archives.

Any help appreciated.
