It's not forced. I believe you will find some discussion on EOL (End Of
Life) which I think occurred before Cobalt was sold to Sun. So if you're
expecting Sun to support a server they never sold or manufactured,
you're only going to get what they do out of the goodness of their
heart. Bruce has said Sun does do security updates for 5 years after EOL
