I'm doing some research on using a tape backup connected to a raq4r. I
think it is possible but don't see much talk of it here. It is a 40g
tape drive. I see people talking about just using rsync or raqbackup to
backup to a Windows box or whatever, but I would like to use tapes to
rotate things off site. In researching those two programs, I haven't
found where they would help backup to tape, although I may have missed it.
In the archives I've found scant info about it. I did find some mention
of taper, but that might have a 4g. limit? I found flexbackup and
Amanda, but reading through some of the docs it looks like they use
dump, afio, cpio, and a few others. I've looked at dump but seems like
lots to learn there as well. (As far as installing on the raq, etc.)
I've also looked at the three packages on the raq gui, Arkeia, etc.. but
under parameters they ask about ports and servers.. (by the way, I'm a
newbie). And the Arkeia page says that the free version doesn't backup
to tape. I'm not sure what version is on the raq.
Anybody care to comment? (Oh, and I'm heading to the knowledge base now..)
