Many thanks to everyone who made suggestions for this one (and in
particular Ray, for the time he spent on sunday stepping me through
things). This reply is for the archives
None of the suggestions made actually resolved the problem, probably
because they missed the point. I wasn't trying to prevent frontpage
overwriting miva script files when publishing - and everyone's method
worked fine for that. I was attempting to ensure that a mivascript
could use both miva extensions and frontpage extensions. This meant
that it had to be published by Frontpage, and be capable of being read
by Miva.
Miva was having a problem accpting files owned by "nobody" - which is
the owner Frontpage gives all its files. And was easily resolved by
adding authorisation for nobody in the miva configuration files.
Problem now solved and I can publish with Frontpage and use frontpage
and miva extensions together
