there's your problem. cpan will summarily shred your GUI. a "friend"
of mine tested this on a production machine once. if you want to make
changes to your perl, you need to install a second copy somewhere else,
and change the shebangs in your pages.
We tried to enter the GUI but the password was not accepted.
if you could get the GUI to respond, there is a manual/physical reset
of the root password, look through the list archives for that.
We rebooted using a SWITCH management but the server never appeared
again
online.
Our provider was able to reboot the server but now we can reach only
by IP and we enter the GUI, but it's full of internal server errors
(i.e. no virtual site list displayed and so on).
ok, IMHO you have a few options. 1) backup and restore the raq from
Cobalt CD. probably the best and safest bet. 2) administer the server
by hand. why buy a raq?? 3) Try webmin http://www.webmin.com . its a
server admin gui with very advanced options. does all the stuff that
the raq gui does, and a ton more stuff. not tailored to the raq
specifically, like the original gui, but who cares. i have it running
on my server as a just in case solution. it has a very easy install
and everything. just have to give it a custom port and amend your
firewall rules as necessary. at the least it will help speed you
through the backup process.
i recommend option 1 with option 3 once you've finished option 1. just
remember, if you're running webmin, and you change things that the raq
gui usually does, it won't figure it out. in fact, be careful with
webmin if you don't plan to use it fulltime. it gives you the power to
really mess things up.
my 2 cents (and a little more)
