Thank you for the solution to my problem and also to David for his
solution. Just the way it worked out tried Gerald's first achieved my
aim.
This list is a great resource. I hope eventually I will gain enough
experience to help others as you have helped me.

crontab -l
see if it is listed
/etc/rc.d/init.d/crond restart
then
crontab -l
should be there now....
