there is no clue about PASV. Check this link

It is very difficult to me analyze network problem without
knowledge of your network and actions you do.
I think that more information you read about ProFTPD,
then you understand your situation more clear.

As I've already pointed out this problem has nothing to do with
my network nor with proftpd. This is strictly an FTP _client_ problem.
From the same Raq550 I can use a perl script with Net::FTP to get the file.
I've solved my problem, at least I thinj I have -- by coping the version
of /usr/bin/ftp from my Raq3 to my RaQ550. No more goint into
passive mode.
