hi,
checked my system again and i think it is a raq4 problem.
so i still can't send emails to somebody@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx from a remote host,
because i get
--snip--
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to mannheimeins.de.:
>>> RCPT To:<webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
<<< 550 5.7.1 <webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>... Relaying denied. Please check
your mail first.
550 <webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>... User unknown
--snip--
it doesn't matter if i use a catch-all, if i send it to the username or if i
send it to an alias.
it always comes back.
in the gui the mail-server alias is set to mannheimeins.de. thats fine
in /etc/access
relaying is enabled for the ip of mannheimeins.de
in /etc/virtusertable
catch-all and aliases for mannheimeins.de are listed
so i don't see any mistakes here. it is absolutely identical to other of our
virtual domains.
did anyone experience something similar before ?
it is not a problem of the virtual host beeing in a different network as i
thought before, cause other domains in this network work fine
thanks in advance
carsten

Subject: [cobalt-users] RAQ4: can't receive email for some domains
hi all,
this is is the first time for me to participate at this list and i hope my
problem is posted to the right group.
first of all : this is a raq4r. it is hosted by a big german hosting
company. dns is done by our provider.
for almost 1 and 1/2 years everything was fine.
now, my problem is, that on some domains i can send email without problem
but i can't receive email for it.
when i send an email from an account/domain which is not hosted on our raq4
, to one of those domains (for example webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) i get the
following response :
The original message was received at Thu, 5 Sep 2002 19:36:36 +0200 (MET

for me that is a little bit confusing.
i always thought this would be the errormessage i would get if i try to send
an email with the account webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx without checking it
befor (smtp-after-pop)
when i send an email from an account/domain which is hosted on our raq
everything is fine.
well, i searched the archives and someone had a problem of this kind to, and
you advised him to check if his
mx entries were ok and to do a traceroute and stuff like that.
i checked the mx entries, they point to mannheimeins.de and that is ok.
so i did a traceroute to mannheimeins.de - it told me the domain could not
be reached. (same with the ip)
i did ping mannheimeins.de - nothing. (same with the ip)
this was even more confusing because website can be reached under
http://www.mannheimeins.de.
i checked a litte further and what i found was:
most of our domains are within a certain network (212.227.251.xxx), some are
not.
one of those is mannheimeins.de, it is in 217.160.79.xxx.
and we have some domains in 212.227.248.xxx. with this domains the
email-stuff works,
but you cant do a traceroute or a ping with them.
i suppose this could be the cause for our problem. my first question is : is
this a thing we as server-owner can fix or has it do with our hosting
provider ? and the second one, if we can fix it, is how to fix it.
i hope this wasn't too confusing.
thanks in advance

Does whoever maintains your DNS information provide reverse IP mapping
for your IP address(es)?
Some servers/software require a reverse mapping for the IP address to
try to make sure that the IP address has not been forged. Do only some
remote domains have this problems or do all remote domains have this
problem?
