Gerald and I worked on this a bunch last night - the swap file is its own partition, on the RAQ3i anyway. If it were to "resize" itself, it would have to rebuild the drive (it is the 2nd partition) making another partition smaller.
Maybe they meant the OS just made an adjustment to understand there is more RAM (unix will change that on the fly when you reboot, no changes needed) ... maybe the swap file by default is some minimum size to acct for adding a RAM upgrade.
When I did all my drive rebuilding last night, I made all partitions larger to accommodate various future upgrades.
