I got this message automatically generated by server admin a few days ago

Subject: The filesystem [/var] is getting very full

Message:

is getting very close to full. This is very dangerous for the server
and can cause unexpected errors to occur. You either need to move some
files to another storage device and delete them from the Sun Cobalt server
or delete them altogether. Consult the documentation for help adding
storage to your Sun Cobalt server.

I've been running a RAQ4i for over 2 years without any problems. The day
before I got this message I had applied a lot of the Cobalt patches
inclusing the OS update to ver 2.0. Also I updated Webaliser to the latest
version - but the stats reports still come back as having being generated by
the previous version.

Main question is what redundant files can be safely deleted from the /var
partition (or volume) also ca it be increased in size and so on.
Also logged on as administrator an I do this with an FTP client (Cute) or
do I have to telnet in as Admin to root.
I am concerned as I see recently quite a lot of postings re problems when
the /VAR partition is full and I obviously want to avaoid that.

I have about 80 virtual sites running on my RAQ.
