It is possible for it to have the same document root as mydomain.com.

What do I need to do if this is the case, am I correct in assuming that I
would need to set up the 'A' records then add the extra apache config but
without setting up another user. Then set the document root to be the same
as mydomain.com but add the necessary configuration to allow HTTPS?

If you're willing to manually edit the http.conf file I can't see why this
wouldn't work. If you want to do this through the admin GUI my WAG is that
it would not be possible. I believe you'll have to use a separate IP address
for the HTTPS web.
