Retrospect itself is a MacOS 9.x, MacOS X, and Windows application. They
only have client software for Linux. Further the Mac version of Retrospect
currently does not support the Linux or Solaris clients.

The current usage is to have a Windows box running Retrospect 6.0 and
sucking data from client machines. The Retrospect Client allows this to
happen via TCP port 497 so you don't need to login, mount shares, etc, etc.

Backups can be fully automated and scheduled ... all completely independent
of the Qube.

I like it because my Qube3 clients all use MacOS or Windows on the desktop
so its easy to install and then perform backups to a variety of devices ...
Firewire external hard drives, Firewire VXA tape, internal CDRW, etc, etc.
Full backups, incremental backups, multiple media sets, etc, etc.

The other issue is restore ... it really works.

Cheers, Malcolm
