I'm not sure you can. However, most likely, the reason
your /var partition is nearly full, is that is where
your MySQL databases are kept. If that is correct, use
the following commands to move the data directories:
mysqladmin -u root -p[password] shutdown
mv /var/lib/mysql /home
ln -s /home/mysql /var/lib/mysql
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql start
This will shutdown mysql, move the mysql data
directory to /home, create a symlink to the new
directory, and then start mysql again.
