Re: [cobalt-users] LX50 servers

Has anyone on the list seen the new Cobalt LX50 server from Sun?

It looks like Sun is moving the futures cobalt servers to the Solaris to me. See http://sun.com front screen. I read the info on the front page of the site and it mostly pushes Solaris not Linux so I have to assume this means Solaris is in our future. I did see that the server is available with Sun Linux also but that makes it sound like they don't really want to use Linux.

Any comments?

These units are NOT appliance units. They both (sun linux and Solaris) have java, mysql and a couple more things. No where does it say they have a gui for maintaining the units. The linux one at least will be maintainable via the Control Station Management Tool. These units, IMHO are being sold as Sun/Cobalt as they are underpriced for Sun units. They are not being sold as GUI maintainable Web Appliances as are the Raq's and such. We will be seeing more Raq's that are more powerful as time goes on.
