I had a similar problem on a RaQ4r that I converted to a RaQ4i
But I left the second disk configured for raid.
I did see something in the log files about it, don't remember the exact
entry but it had something to do with 'raid'. I chaged the partition
ids on the drive 0xFD to 0x83 and everything was OK
