[cobalt-users] re: POP before SMTP

If you mean Pop-authenticated relaying (SMTP), there's a perl script
complete with instructions that fixed mine like butta. Go look at the
knowledgebase. I don't know jack about linux, and I followed the
instructions, so you can too.

Hi All,

I want to convert a DNS Record on a RAQ4 that right now is (slave record)
pointing to another Raq4 that is a Master DNS Server to became Master,

is any way to do this without having to re-enter all the record data in the
web interface.

TIA

Hi,

One of my clients is having trouble getting his CGI to work properly... it
seems that because the cgi is running as httpd it cannot read the data
files as they are owned by user:site#

This was suggested:

------
root could give inital ownership of all
the files to httpd:site2 and as long as
the mask is changed to give group r+w
things should work okay, and user
milosh or whoever should own the files
can still manage (modify and delete) them
as necessary.
...<snip>...
A cleaner solution is to ensure that this instance runs as
user:milosh group:site2 or that its cgi executes as this
user. This keeps things more self contained.
------

How can I set this up so that the CGIs on this site run as the user instead
of httpd?

and/or... how do I do this bit?
"as long as the mask is changed to give group r+w"

Hello,
I have actually had mailscanner running on a raq3 before the pkgs were
available. It has been working fine, and it does kick out several virus
messages a day. I have been using F-Prot, and so far I have it on my
personal server, not on any of the commercial servers. I do however want to
install it on my other servers but I don't think at $300 per server license
that is going to be possible. Has anyone heard of the Open Antivirus
Project http://www.openantivirus.org/ They have something that may be able
to work, maybe even with mailscanner, and the best thing of all is, it's
free! :) Hopefully someone has already taken a look at this.
Thanks,
Gregg

Hi Chad,

Depends on how much you want to pay and how serious you are about
co-location. My company offers a solution under our sister company Maxil
Communications (www.maxil.com). I can get someone to call you if you need
more information.

Thanks,

I have to leave my current host because they SUCK!

Anyone with a good host for colocation or dedicated servers please contact
me. I am looking for something reasonably priced. I want a new raq 550 but I
will rent or buy it if I find the right host. I do not want to be charged
for every little thing that I install on the server either (ie. MySQL,
NeoMail, etc. etc.)

I would like a good backup solution also.

Thanks,

I have tried all different combinations starting with

If the user uploaded the CGI via FTP as that username, it should run as
that user. (I even had a small problem of a script that sent mail
sending the mail as user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx instead of the
Return-path: specified in the script).

If it's a FrontPage site, if they turn the CGI-BIN locally into a
subweb, then when they publish the main web only, the CGI-BIN shouldn't
be touched.

It's not frontpage.

The CGI is an online course manager. It creates users and follows their
progress through various training seminars.

Here are two samples of the directories it creates. One is data from the
previous server (666669), the other (666661) is from our RaQ4.

Notice the httpd file ownership?
All of the files and scripts are owned by milosh:site2

Hi Yah,

And thanks to all that have replied - I get the digest on a daily basis so
haven't had a change to reply to each person individually.

The problem has been resolved and error was on my part but there is still
something that confuses me...

chkrootkit 0.31 was being called from the cron.daily as zchkrootkit and the
script consisted of:

/home/software/chkrootkit-0.31/chkrootkit

Thats all and it's worked for well over a year and syslog sent through by
email the report generated by chkrootkit

Now when I updated to chkrootkit 0.36 I created the
/home/software/chkrootkit-0.36 folder and yes I did run make etc. When
chkrootkit was run it worked but with the errors mention before. Now after
going through everything thats been posted I changed the cron.daily script
to the following:

cd /home/software/chkrootkit-0.36
./chkrootkit

And voila it works - but going back through the archives from the newsgroup
I noticed one of Carrie B's old posts and the instructions for installation
are exactly the same as I did and it also states ./chkrootkit to run...

Now what I want to know is why was my old version 0.31 running perfectly
with only /home/software/chkrootkit-0.31/chkrootkit as the cron and it ran
the same if typing it in on the command line ??

Thanks again to everyone

Chae

Guys,

Problem is solved. A member offlist pointed me in the correct direction by
getting me to go through the program code to find out what would cause a

program causing the malformed error. It was a file in the /bin/ dir called
.login.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Guys,

I checked in the archives and only 8 indirect hits. Installed ChkrootKit V
pre-0.36 and I have the normal errors in the log file but I cannot find any
information on this reported error:

"Searching for LPD Worm files and dirs... Possible LPD worm installed"

It's a Raq4 with all the updates and I have logged out and back in again
(got rid of the 'lkm' message) but I have not rebooted the machine.

Do I need some upgrades/patches? Let me know what you think.

I thought I would follow up to my own post just in case anyone else has
noticed this problem. The word from Cobalt is that there is indeed a bug
in ProFTP v. 1.2.4 where the umask set in the global section causes
strange permission problems on uploaded files. It doesn't happen every
time and the perms aren't always the same. The Sun tech I spoke to told
me engineering will have to decide whether to fix the bug or work around
it in the Cobalt UI. Apparently if you set the umask on every single
virtual host instead of in the global section the problem doesn't exist.

Personally I'm sticking with the earlier release of ProFTP. At least I'm
not loosing my mind.

Are you sure you have all the updates installed?
Why do you mean by "and nothing"?
Does the box stay checked after you click-on "save changes"?

execute poprelayd -p
look at the ip addresses listed.
pop your mail then do poprelayd -p
your ip address should be listed.
wait > 15 minutes
do poprelayd -p
your ip address should be gone
