To All,
My problem is solved. Thanks to everyone, especially Marcos Gurgel and
Jonothon Ortiz. Here's a summary.
Problem: I installed Cobalt's latest patch for Apache on my RaQ4 from the
GUI. The patch is RaQ4-All-Security-2.0.1-15417.pkg. Immediately after the
installation, neither the web server nor the admin server would start. I
was getting a segmentation fault upon starting httpd, apparently from
corrupted files. I am running MySQL 3.23.37 from Pkgmaster, PHP 4.0.6,
Chilisoft 3.5.2, and WebDav.
Solution: Reinstall the RPMS from the command line, overwriting the
corrupted files.
Details: For those, like me, who are not that familiar with the command
language.
- Stop the httpd and admserv:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/admserv stop
- Download the apache update package to /home/packages/ like this:
cd /home/packages/
wget
http://ftp.cobalt.sun.com/pub/packages/raq4/eng/RaQ4-All-Security-2.0.1-1541
7.pkg
- Unpack it using tar:
tar -zxvf RaQ4-All-Security-2.0.1-15417.pkg
- Change to the RPMS directory
cd RPMS
- List the rpms present
ls -l
- Execute the following command for each rpm package listed:
rpm -i --force [rpm name]
(do this even if you already have them installed)
You should have to type this (one line at a time):
rpm -i --force apache-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C3.i386.rpm
rpm -i --force apache-admsrv-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C3.i386.rpm
rpm -i --force apache-devel-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C3.i386.rpm
rpm -i --force apache-mod_perl-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C3.i386.rpm
rpm -i --force apache-openssl-1.3.20-RaQ4_1C3.i386.rpm
- Start both httpd and admserv:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/admserv start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start
- Delete the package and the RPMS if you wish.
Crank up the browser and point to your admin screen. Hopefully you'll be
pleasantly surprised. Obviously, this solution is not guaranteed to work
for everyone, but it did for me.

Updated to the new Chilisoft product 3.62 and things are better.. or are
they??
Any way at least the server seems to now be aware of it being installed but
now
insists on a user name and password that I have no clue what it is...
Can you help..?
Admin & Root don't work..

That was probablly me. We've found that after you install that patch
there are a few things you must do... and I don't remember them in my
head and I'm lazy so rather than look them up I just said to enter the
error message into the cobalt-users search and see how to fix it. Now
you've got me sorry I didn't spell it all out.
There have been instructions before on cobalt-users, on how to finish an
uninstall that didn't properly complete... perhaps you can find those
instructions by searching the archive.
Once it's installed, then you should probably reinstall it, and then
reinstall whatever it was that has to be reinstalled. But please don't
take my word for it; always check yourself.
We can bring your box back, but we can't do it free <frown>.

If you haven't done it yet, now is a good time to upgrade Chilisoft
(it's got a new name now).
