Perhaps it's time to find a provider that WILL?  Most providers will
sell you work if they won't do it for free, lots specialize in RaQs.

We travel anywhere in Southern California for our local clients within
four hours of a machine down notification; at our own colo center we can
begin work within two hours even for the most complex tasks.  On rental
systems we can have all your sites running on a new server within two
hours.  While I'm not saying you should come running to me, I don't see
anything wrong with asking your colo center for the same level of
accountable.

I remember reading somewhere that someone had created a .pkg file that
would clear out some unnecessary stuff from the / partition, and also
rebuild the /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, and/or /etc/group files if
necessary, so you could log back in.

If no one's done this, it's time for someone who knows packaging a bit
better than I do, to do it for us <smile>.
