Hi Simon,
I'd suspect its more down to the cobalt update somehow causing a problem rather than portsentry taking it over.

If you do want to exclude portsentry from using this port, open up 
/etc/portsentry/portsentry.conf

Find the part ADVANCED_EXCLUDE_TCP and add in the number 22
Also, in TCP_PORTS remove 22 if its in there. That should stop portsentry trying to attach to port 22 (ssh)

Also, i'd recommend making sure SSH starts up on reboot, and preferably before portsentry too.
