[cobalt-users] DNS migration - major screwup

Panic!

My new XTR and RaQ3 boxes were configured today, so first job was to
transfer the DNS records from my old RaQ4 to the new RaQ3, which is
going to act as my DNS server.

Following instructions given on the list last week, I've created a
copy of the /etc/named/records file from the old box and edited it to
suit the new IP addresses.

Then I SSH'd into the RaQ3, made a copy of the existing
/etc/named/records in the same directory, and called it
records_beforeupdate, before copying the edited records file over the
top of the original and pressing Save Changes in the GUI.

As expected, it promptly parsed the records file and updated the DNS
sytem.

What I wasn't expecting was for it to have trashed the original DNS
entries made when the server was configured! No matter I thought, I'll
just recopy the records_beforeupdate file back and restore things...

However, the backup file is now missing! It was definately there
before, as I double-checked the copy had worked. I suspect it was
deleted when the GUI did the update and made all the .pri files etc -
presumably it trashes the directory and starts again (sounds like an
odd thing to do though).

Where's my backup file gone?! Am I up poo creak minus a paddle here?

Tim.
