Hi all,
just in case somebody is thinking about running Qube2 OS
on a Raq2, here is my experience with this adventure.
First thing i had to fight was dhcpd. After re-boot the
server was looking for an dhcp server. After the timout
(arround 10 minutes) the server had an random IP adress
from the 192.168.0.X block. The IP changed every time
after re-boot. During the timeout period it is not possible to
telnet or ssh to the server, or access the admin GUI (the IP is
actualy on the LCD display during the timout). I had to manualy
reconfigure the network in /etc/sysconfig conf files ifcfg-eth0
ifup and network.
Second problem was the usage of the / partition. The Qube2 OS used
after installing all update packages 84% of the partition. One might
move some stuff from /usr to /home (The Raq2 only uses 52% of the /
partition after all update packages are installed).
Third problem i encoutered was a memory leak. In the end the memory
usage was up to 245MB out of 256MB, swap partition was slightly in use.
(Raq2 uses arround 40MB) This was by the default install with all update
packages installed. I did not investigate from where the memory leak was
coming but i believe it was issued from one of the upgrades.
I believe the Qube2 OS is pretty nice and has some very nice (better)
features
over the Raq2 OS. One could spend 2 or 3 days to solve the problems and
would have a pretty nice Server.
Yes....i restored my Raq2 to the Raq2 OS :-)))
Maybe i will play arround with it at another time when i have more time.
Best Regards
Peter
