Gerald doing some research since I posted and I've checked my etc/host, 
named.conf, resolv.conf and all the other files popping up on the various 
newsgroups and all are okay.

What I have done is contacted my colo and asked them to insure that they 
have the reverse done correctly for the IP's. This as I mentioned only 
happened a couple of days a go now - reverse and dns have been running okay 
for the last year or so.
