My root partition was full for only a couple days max. But that broke 
some stuff. I have logrotate.status errors, no webserver ability, and 
dhcp crashes about nightly.

But I did solve my problem with not being able to update the password by 
removing a file called /etc/locks/ptmp. That fixed the passwords.

so now I'm looking at doing an OS restore and putting everyone here on 
static ip addresses.
