The "charter" for the list does say no advertising, but the way it's
worded, it seems to imply no "I have x servers for sale at $y each" or
"Call WonderHosting for all your Cobalt hosting needs" versus job
posting/solicitation.

Given the economic times, and the focused nature of this list though, I'm
not sure the original post was all that harmful or outrageous... the
discussion after it has chewed up much more bandwidth.

That being said, no advertising means no advertising.  There are plenty of
alternative lists where that sort of traffic is either tolerated or
encouraged.

The Meta FAQ does discuss sig files, and the existing description of "4
lines or less" doesn't seem to say what the content can or should be.  I'm
inclined to allow people to continue using up to 4 line sigs with any
content, including the name and URL of their business and a slogan if it
will fit.

In case anyone is in doubt, I'm defining advertising as the offering of, or
soliciation of, goods and/or services and/or employment in exchange for
money by an individual or a business.  (If anyone has alternative
definitions they feel are more appropriate, specific, limiting, legalistic,
etc, send them to me OFF LIST and I'll consider them instead of mine.)

I would like suggestions (also OFF LIST!) for links to lists, websites, or
forums which would be more appropriate for "advertising" content, so they
may be added to the Meta FAQ.
