I have had similar issues with both these programs,
and finally switched over to php with squirrelmail.org
for webmail, its latest version is absolutely great.

Be sure to FIRST really uninstall all mail folders
and files in the user-dirs that OWM or Neomail created,
and install a recent PHP package (the one from pkgmaster).

Squirrel is the best I know. In fact, I'm using it right now ;-)
Easy to administer, secure, fast, lightweight, and simply put;
No nonsense, little slack-code, and easily changable to adapt
it to your weirdest wishes. Only thing I found it was
lacking was a decent unix passwd change option
from *inside* your login to squirrelmail.
But I solved that by linking to A HREF="/personal"
on the login and signout page. My users are content with it.

Especially cool is the quick-save plugin.
People have truly been hugging me for that ! :-)
