As a followup to this message:
It actually takes 75 seconds to see a response from the SMTP server.
Telnet domainname 25 -> 75 seconds
Telnet domainname, then Telnet domainname 25 -> 75 seconds
Telnet domainname, then Telnet localhost 25 -> immediate

Subject: [cobalt-users] Slow SMTP (and PHP mail) Response
I am using SendMail 8.10.2 on a Cobalt RAQ4.
Calls to the PHP mail() function locally from our web pages take a very long
time to resolve. Also, if I try to Telnet to port 25 from a remote machine,
it connects immediately, but it takes about 30 seconds for the SMTP server
to respond. Telnet to port 23 resolves immediately, as does normal web
access. I am using the same hostname to connect remotely to SMTP, Telnet,
and the web server.
What is different about SMTP that would cause the delay in response, both
locally and from a remote site? Any configuration parameters I need to look
at?
