Its not a SAMBA issue ... its a Linux filesystem issue.
You'd need a later version of Linux to resolve this problem.
What backup software do you intend to use? If you used a Mac running
Retrospect you could backup a network of Windows PCs to the disks in a Qube3
via FTP. Retrospect automatically breaks up the storage set into "bite
sized" chunks so they are handled by ftp and the filesystem.
Unfortunately the Windows version of Retrospect does not support FTP Servers
as a "target".
