I've not tried this directly, but I'm pretty sure some of the hard drives
around now do have an onboard method which you setup via links on the rear
to overcome this problem. It's just something I've noticed, but not used,
when building new systems for people.
It's probably worth taking a look ay a couple of hdd manufacturers websites
concerning this.
