Yes, Gerald. I mentioned earlier in this thread, in response to your
suggestion / query, that I would install openSSH. I did. It could not
have been easier.

Afterwards, I disabled [unchecked via the GUI] Telnet Server at the Server
Management - Control Panel. I made certain that I had enabled Telnet/Shell
Access in the Site Management - User Management as necessary. Then I
confirmed that access via Telnet was refused and that access via SSH was
still functioning.

Nothing turned up in response to those commands. I have manually located
one form among the sites and will disable that for now. Doesn't the
formmail script require a functioning SMTP service?

PuTTY is even better than when I used it with TeraTerm Pro a few years
back. There is no need for TeraTerm Pro any longer.

Next up, is to install POP-before-SMTP which was a total disaster a couple
of years ago.

Thanks to Gerald Waugh and Dan Kriwitsky for their time and contributions
of helpful suggestions. The major question remaining is still, what do I
need to do to get the SMTP service restored?
