Man, this is soooo weird, but JUST as I reloaded http after adding the items
from the prior message, another email came in from someone off-list with the
following as another way to solve the same problem -- just stick the following
(all on one line) into the virtual host container for the site in http.conf:

BrowserMatch MSIE ssl-unclean-shutdown nokeepalive downgrade-1.0
force-response-1.0
