Hello All,IF Arkeia is what you want for a tape backup solution, you can use it on a dedicated tape backup server for free. Arkeia provides a free version licensed for one server and one client. You can use rsync and SSH to send the backup server your backup data across the network and have Arkeia record the data from the hard drive of the backup server. This way, you don't need to duplicate the backups on a hard drive. Have Arkeia schedule the tape backups with the frequency of backups needed. Run you rsync backups in cron jobs.
Now, my comment on Arkeia and other tape backup software on Linux:I liked Arkeia until I decided that my scheduling was not working properly with my data, so I tried rescheduling re-cataloguing my backups. Nightmare!
I have not found ANYTHING that scheduled or catalogued tapes with any flexibility that fit my needs. Fortunately I have been trying "try-before-you-buy" software! Otherwise I would be stuck with a $2000+ piece of software that doesn't do what I want (or say.. at least. "Do what I say, not what YOU want!).
I am now trying Backup Exec on Win2K. At 07:24 PM 5/14/02 -0400, you wrote:
