If he's only renting space on the server you need root's permission to
install packages.  If it were my machine I'd be very hesitant to let
anyone do this under contract to a client; after all it affects the
entire system.  I'd want to take responsibility for it.

Cobalt RaQ4 Linux is based on Red Hat 6.2 linux, and if there's a 6.2
RPMs for it you should probably use it for the instal; if it doesn't
work you can uninstall it, and at the least you'll know what the
discrepancies.

You'll have to recompile Apache yourself if that's necessary.  And
you'll have to make sure you don't veer off the Sun Cobalt standard as
far as options and modules are concerned.

Once you have RPMs for it you can certainly create packages; .pkg files
are repackaged RPMs with extra code added.
