I have searched the list archives and the archives for
cobalt.qube.general for an answer and I have posted to
cobalt.qube.general but that list seems to move a little slower than
this one.
As a school, we are now required to run filtering software. Our
consortium of schools made a deal with Secure Computing for their
product, SmartFilter.
We would like to install SmartFilter on our Qube 3 Pro. The Qube is
currently our DNS, web and email server and is reporting only light
usage. SmartFilter has to be run on a proxy server. SmartFilter will
run on Linux with Squid as the Proxy server. Has anyone else run
SmartFilter on their cube? Is the Squid already loaded or do I need to
download it from Cobalt?
Also, before you ask, I am a TOTAL newbie on Linux. I purchased the
Qube because it was Linux underneath but had a browser interface. So
far, I have been able to do all my administration via the browser. We
had it out of the box and running in less than a day. I am not opposed
to learning Linux, I just haven't had time as we have about 350
computers in the school and only 2 people to keep them running. I
really can't afford a new server for the filtering and would rather not
buy an WinXP box anyway.
TIA for your advice.
