Nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
We actually were rebuilding two units with Raq4R O/S and two 20 GB drives.
One unit was actually a Raq3i (it rebuilt flawlessly, no reboot problems
etc..). The Raq4 (a true Raq4r) is the one we had a lot of trouble with on
the reboots.
FYI - Both units have been reinstalled with all the patches plus: OpenSSH
3.1, Open WebMAil 1.63, Webalizer 2.01 and Chilisoft ASP and are working
fine now.
My suspicion is that something in the PKG files that prompts to have the
server rebooted isn't properly shutting down the services before actually
shutting down and causeing this problem.
Since everything has been installed etc.. I have both rebooted and shutdown
the server multiple times through the GUI and had no further problems.

I had EXACTLY the same thing happen twice last week, particularly after the
RaQ4 13453 glibc update on a freshly restored box, no unofficial software of
any kind.
After two tries I actually wound up putting in a new HD and starting again,
third time was the charm. Makes me VERY wary of upgrading any of the boxes I
have in production, though.
Thanks for the workarounds. I've found just doing a hard reboot usually
works, but I'm not at all comfortable doing that.
