[cobalt-users] RE: RAQ3 DNS Issues Primary & Secondary

Date: 21.04.02 NZ Local Time

Jeff Shouted Out...

SO PLEASE STOP BEING SO PROTECTIVE IF YOU WANT US TO HELP YOU. Yes, I'm shouting <wry grin>.

My Reply being...
Jeff shout as much as you want but everytime I place a legitimate IP address on this newsgroup my logs files, snort reports and anything else I have suddenly grow in size from scans, ftp hack attempts, script kiddie attacks etc. etc. etc. So yes I am being PARANOID and PROTECTIVE of the server but most of all MY CUSTOMERS <boyish grin>. Don't think they'd be happy if the machine got trashed because I had listed my IP's or there domain names just to keep you happy. You could have contacted me offlist for those addresses which I would have happily shared them with you.

Now please relax you'll end up giving your self a hernia or coronary.

With regards to the email issue...

"All your nameserver is doing is telling the originating email server to send mail addressed to user@xxxxxxxxxx to send the email to 3rdparty.com. And it's doing that by ending an IP address back to the originating email server. The originating email server sends the email to 3rdparty.com's IP# without any information at all about your nameserver. That ISP has NO clue."

This ISP is one of the major ISP's in NZ, I even gave one of their main "Sys Admin Managers" a call and asked him to explain how that email being sent from 3rdparty.com had anything to do with my secondary dns server not working - after a bit of defensive gabble it ended up being "mmmhhh we'll see what we can sort out this end" and that's been the end of that, haven't seen any user@xxxxxxxxxx relaying denied errors and all email is happily going through to the customers.

Thank you for your reply and you clarified what I had thought and knew but I don't profess to being an expert or guru and when someone in a position such as "My Man at the ISP" says somethings wrong my side then I like to check with people who I know will know - such as this newsgroup.

Now on a different note; while I'm here Jeff and it's my turn to shout...

WHERE'S THE REPLY TO MY EMAIL REGARDING THE SECONDARY DNS PRICING?
your were going to give this to me several weeks ago?... <boyish grin>

Regards

Chae
