Jeff,
I'd strongly suggest taking a look at PHORUM (as previously mentioned)
PHP based, requires MySQL but is extremely stable and doesn't appear to be
particularly resource hungry.
I use it as my BBS of choice and I've tested many others against it.
YaBB's problems seem to stem from its antiquated use of perl and cgi. I'm at
a stage now where I would only consider deploying a php driven forum. PHPBB
does seem a viable solution aswell, altho I haven't found the need to deploy
it yet.
