I bet you've got a RaQ4r (with Raid), right?
You can't boot from a raid partition. So that 30 MB is a boot
partition. It probably never changes, and you shouldn't ever have to
restore it. It may even be mounted ro (read-only); I'm not taking the
time to look now.

You should be able to, but you shouldn't have to.
