Most likely the DNS hasn't propagated yet...you should be able to ftp into
domain.com once "the world" knows about it.

You could also try adding  lines to your \windows\hosts file
along the lines of

the_full_ip_address	www.domain.com
the_full_ip_address	domain.com

Now, you're telling your desktop/laptop to believe that
www.domain.com and domain.com are located at
the_full_ip_address
