I am sort of new to Cobalt but for the past few months' I've been
pounding the box with all bunch of trash and installs.

I am looking into a new box myself. I might stick with the
Blue..

You can get a SuperMicro 1U rack for as low as $465.00 on pricewatch.com
if that's so I can get it for $400.0 cuz I work with a competitor.

I am a windowz guy. Once I connect to the windows box I am cool.
Who doesn't know how to install, tweak windows!

If you feel comfortable enough to run RedHat 7.2 (server mode) and no
GUI than go for it much cheaper.

If you want GUI, invest another 400-600 in Plesk or Ensim or lease
Cpanel.

Install WebMin, the Cpanel, patch the RedHat, configure Apache manually
or WebMin, DNS, users, ou man... dude.. now that I am thinking about it
I want a white-box less and less.

Ou did I mentioned that ChilliSoft is like 400$ or so...if you were to
get it
by itself.

Hei why not get a WindowZ 1U Rack running Windows 2K Server patch it up
very easy to do so... just goto IE and use Windows Update. Than you can
have Ensim as a control panel for NT servers, than you can run ASP,
ColdFusion, You got SQL Server 2000 Enterprise, Commerce Server,
you also have the nice ODBC.

The bare system is under 800$ but if you add all the software mentioned
than
you're talking over 20Ks...

You should see my logs on the RAQ and see how many Windows exploits /
hack
attempts are on it.. I am getting tired going through the log.

I wanted to get a 1U whitebox powerfull enough to just slide it under my
monitor.
If I wasn't using it for co-lo at least use it for ever day doings. Do
that with
a Blue and like they say.. use it for the looks or use it for
paper-weight. Unless
used for Webhosting.

Like last night I wasted my time trying to install BNC Proxy IRC Server
on the RAQ.
Wasted hours and than it sort of worked but by that time I decided that
I didn't need
it and too much of a security stuff... in those hours I could've
finished a site and
that could've paid for another 1 mo. of co-lo.

Als make sure that you will actually use it and not do what I did...
leave it there
for 3 months, pre-paid and just collecting dust and I don't even recall
when the
rental / lease is up. It was an expensive schooling to actually pay
just for
learning / using the RAQ. I am not making any money on it yet, I'm
loosing.

2c cents...

PS. I also learned the hard way to read the manual / text when dealing
with linux.
Awhile back installed RH and done it before but this time I did server
install and
clicked, next, next, next and so on... than install and so on. I come
to find out
that when you install server mode whatever hard drive you have attached
to your PC
it will wipe it out. Hahaha (not funny!) well I lost about 60 gigs of
stuff. Thank
god I don't remember what now and nothing I needed I guess. Although I
did call
places and ask for data recovery and let me tell you it's expensive.

It would take me few minutes to load a new domain to the RAQ, add email
aliases,
enable PHP, ASP, add mySQL user and tables, ftp etc... using RAQ gui,
php with gui
phpMyAdmin, and such. If I was to do it on a bare Linux Pc system it
would've taken
me alot longer maybe go back and forth to 'text' a little.
