Actually, it's not that understandable. The error message would not say
"check mail first". It would just say "Relaying Denied" Here's an
example of a domain that only points in DNS to an IP on my RaQ4 to park
the domain. No MX record is set up, nor is the domain an email alias.
The maillog:
Mar 29 21:14:45 admin sendmail[2429]: g2U3Ej002429: ruleset=check_rcpt,
arg1=<dan@xxxxxxxx>, relay=some.server.com [206.555.555.555], reject=550
5.7.1 <dan@xxxxxxxx>... Relaying denied
The bounced message:
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 <dan@xxxxxxxx>... Relaying denied Giving up
on 216.xx.xxx.xxx.
The only thing I would guess is that somehow the default "Relaying
denied" message got messed up so it's tacking on the "Check mail first"
message too.
